“…what attributes employers seek in college graduates…

…communication skills, problem solving skills, and an ability to work well with others…”

To compete in a global economy, you must be able to communicate globally.

I find it difficult to imagine that a college graduate student would not know how to communicate via a blogging interface (e.g. WordPress). Why? Because being able to develop and quickly communicate ideas in a multi-media rich form (including text, audio, video & interactive presentations), being able to collaborate easily across both time and space, and creating & digesting content via a wide range of devices, especially mobile devices, are 21st Century Skills necessary to successfully compete globally.

WILMINGTON HERALD – 1851-…

REGULAR LINE.

THE Cape Fear Steamboat Co’s Steamer CHATHAM, Capt. Hurt, will run regularly between Wilmington and Fayetteville, leaving Fayetteville every Monday and Thursday at 9 o’clock, A. M., and arriving at Wilmington same evening; giving passengers going North an opportunity to take the cars next morning at 9 o’clock. And leave Wilmington on Tuesdays and Fridays, at 2 o’clock, P. M., giving passengers by the cars, which arrive at Wilmington at 1 o’clock daily, an opportunity to take the boat to Fayetteville.
The Steamer GOV. GRAHAM, with the tow boats belonging to the Line, will run in connection with the Chatham, making one or more trips a week, as circumstances may require.
Passengers and Freighters may rely upon the above arrangement. It is hoped that the necessary expenses to be incurred by this arrangement will be rewarded by an increased patronage; otherwise a loss will probably be sustained by the Company, which will lead to a discontinuance of regular time of running.
T. C. WORTH, Agent,
Wilmington.

Memo.
Br. brig James Orr, Bell, master, from Cardiff, 181 tons burthen, loaded with Rail Road Iron for the W. & R. R. Co., lies ashore on New Inlet Bar, and will be a total loss. The Steamer "Gov. Graham" went down to her assistance yesterday morning; the sails, rigging, equipments and a portion of the cargo will probably be saved.

NOTE: I just realized that there was a great deal of activity upon the Cape Fear River during the early part of 1853. Several boats from Delaware, especially, Wilmington, Del., came to the Cape Fear during that time: The Zephyr, the Spray, and the Wm. Barnet all arrived in short succession. There was also, the death of Capt. Wilkinson during this time.
